ART Classes with The Arc and ACC 

It’s official! The Arc of the Arts studio, located at 4902 Grover Avenue, has partnered with Austin Community College STEPS program to become a satellite site for late afternoon, evening and weekend art classes through their Continuing Education Division. These classes are designed for people of all abilities and are open to the community. Summer 2017 classes will be offered on a trimester basis; spring, summer, and fall. Attendees will receive a student ID and will earn Continuing Education Units.

16 Week Courses: August 28th to December 17th
8 Week Courses: Session 1- August 28th to October 22nd
Session 2 – October 23rd to December 17th

 

 

Intro to Theater 

Monday 2:30-4:30pm, 16 weeks – 3 payments of $161 

This 16 week course introduces students to theatrical concepts such as play reading/writing, acting, costuming, makeup, and other design fields for the stage. Through group readings, exercises, and activities we will explore roles in the theater and the art of storytelling through the theatrical arts.  From onstage to backstage, Shakespeare to musical theater, this course will focus on building an ensemble that can learn and create together.

Foundations in Music

Monday 6:00-8:00pm, 16 weeks – 3 payments of $161 

This class will focus on the elements of music (rhythm, melody, tempo, and dynamics) and will include singing, movement, playing instruments, and composition. Students will write, record, and edit their own original pieces complete with accompaniment tracks.

Painting a Series

Tuesday 6:00-8:00pm, 16 weeks – 3 payments of $161 

This course introduces students to the fundamentals of painting a series of artworks. Students will be encouraged to explore a variety of subject matter as well as different water-based media such as acrylic, watercolor, and ink on a variety of surfaces. Every two weeks students will be introduced to a new technique and incorporate that technique into their artistic series.

Animation 101

Wednesday 2:30 – 4:30pm, 16 weeks – 3 payments of $161 

This course offers the opportunity to study, critique, and create animations. Students will get a comprehensive overview of equipment, software, and the animation process. Subjects will include writing, storyboarding, drawing, and animating for the camera, as well as editing and post production. Students will create their own animation.

Cartooning and Comics

Wednesday 6:00-8:00pm, 8 week  sessions – $243.00 per session

Session 1: August 28th-October 22nd  

Artists will learn and explore different techniques and approaches to drawing characters and developing stories. Session 1 will focus on creating cartoons, anime, and other illustrated characters.  Students are not required to enroll in both sessions

Session 2: October 23-December 17

Artists will learn and explore different techniques and approaches to drawing characters and developing stories. Session 2 will focus on creating stories with characters and students will exit this class with a fully developed short comic. Students are not required to enroll in both sessions.

Photography 101

Thursday 6-8pm, 8 week sessions – $243 per session

Session 1: Aug.28-Oct.22

Session 2: October 23rd-December 17

This course will introduce students to both the history of photography and the many techniques within the medium. Artists will explore the concepts of both analog and digital processes with the ultimate goal of developing an artistic identity as a photographer. Students are not required to enroll in both sessions

Ceramics and Weaving

Saturday 10-12pm, 16 weeks – 3 payments of $161 

This class jumps feet first into the world of functional art. The first half of the semester will focus on creating art with clay using the three hand-building techniques of pinch, coil, and slab. In the second half of the semester students will focus on making baskets and weaving from looms.

* Please note that one on one support is not provide, students with high needs should bring an aide or support staff at no charge from our program
