The Declaration of the Rights of People with Cognitive Disabilities to Technology and Information Access (called “the Declaration”) is a list of reasons why people with cognitive disabilities, including intellectual and developmental disabilities, deserve to have access to computers, internet, and other information and communication technology. The Declaration was developed by the Coleman Institute for Cognitive Disabilities at the University of Colorado. As information and communication technology becomes increasingly important to modern living, ensuring it is accessible to people with I/DD is crucial to ensuring that people with I/DD have as much autonomy as possible. Signing the Declaration is a symbolic measure to show our support of the principles described in the document. The Coleman Institute is collecting these signatures to show the widespread support for the Declaration’s message.
The Arc of the Capital Area is the only organization to receive two consecutive grants from The Coleman Institute. As a partner of The Institute, it is crucial that our organization make a show of our support for the Declaration. Please sign the declaration in support of us. When signing make sure you include the name THE ARC OF THE CAPITAL AREA so that our organization is recognized. https://www.colemaninstitute.org/declaration/
