ART Classes with The Arc and ACC

It’s official! The Arc of the Arts studio, located at 4902 Grover Avenue, has partnered with Austin Community College STEPS program to become a satellite site for late afternoon, evening and weekend art classes through their Continuing Education Division. These classes are designed for people of all abilities and are open to the community*. 2017 classes will be offered on a trimester basis; spring, summer, and fall. Attendees will receive a student ID and will earn Continuing Education Units.

Session 1- January 16th to March 6th
Session 2 – March 17th to May 5th

Foundations of Music

Monday 4 – 6 p.m. 8 week sessions

This class will focus on the elements of music (rhythm, melody, tempo, and dynamics) and will include singing, movement, playing instruments, and composition. Students will write, record, and edit their own original pieces complete with accompaniment tracks.

$292.50 per session or three payments of $97.50**

Session 1: January 22th– March 19th 2018

Session 2: March 26th– May 14th 2018 

Begin to Paint

Tuesday 6 – 8 p.m. 8 week sessions

This course introduces students to classical and contemporary painting, techniques and concepts, with emphasis on the understanding of its verbal and visual language. Artists will explore different painting techniques and approaches and learn to apply them to their own work. Mediums will include water based acrylic and water color paints, inks, and study of brushes and pallet knifes, as well as paper, canvas and alternative painting surfaces.

$292.50 per session or or three payments of $97.50**

Session 1: January 16th– March 6th  2018

Session 2: March 20st– May 8th 2018

Cartooning and Comics

Wednesday 6 – 8 p.m. 8 week sessions

Artists will learn and explore different techniques and approaches to drawing characters and developing stories. The 8A semester will focus on creating cartoons, anime, and other illustrated characters. The 8B semester will focus on creating stories with those characters.

$292.50 per session or three payments of $97.50**

Session 2: March 21st– May 9th 2018

Animation 101

Thursday 6 – 8 p.m. 8 week sessions

Ceramics and Weaving                                                                                                   

Saturday 10 – 12 p.m. 8 week sessions

These classes jump feet first into the world of functional art. The first 8 weeks will be ceramics and focus on creating art with clay using the three hand-building techniques of pinch, coil, and slab. The second 8 weeks will be weaving and students will make baskets and weave on looms.

Session 2: March 17st– May 5th 2018

Photography

Saturday 1 – 3 p.m. 8 week sessions

This photography course is designed to solidify a students understanding of both the history of photography and the many techniques within the medium. Artists will explore the concepts of the digital processes with the ultimate goal of developing a series of photographic artworks.

$292.50 per session or three payments of $97.50**

* Please note that one on one support is not provided, students with high needs should bring an aide or support staff at no charge from our program.
**Spring payment plans are available until  January 17, 2018, at 5 p.m.
-Down payment of 34% is required by 5 p.m. prior to the next payment deadline.
-Next payment of one-third. Due on or before February 16, 2018, by 5 p.m.
-Final payment of one-third. Due on or before March 23, 2018, by 5 p.m.
