Institute Declaration

The Declaration of the Rights of People with Cognitive Disabilities to Technology and Information Access (called “the Declaration”) is a list of reasons why people with cognitive disabilities, including intellectual and developmental disabilities, deserve to have access to computers, internet, and other information and communication technology.

Your Group

The Arc of the Capital Area has one-time volunteer opportunities for community, school, companies and other groups. Group volunteering occurs in our post-secondary program which includes courses in art, health and wellness, gardening and career education.

In The Arc’s Art Education Program, clients with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) explore artistic mediums and create artwork that is professionally shown and sold at art shows, local businesses, and online.

Did you know that there are government waivers available to help Texans with Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities, but that there is an average wait of 15 years to receive them? That means that in order to get support after public high school services end, you'd have to know about the waivers, have the disability diagnosed, and get on the waitlist by kindergarten.
